GATE 2022 Exam Dates, Eligibility, Pattern, Application Form Fees

GATE Exam is the biggest national-level entrance exam, which holds a lot of weightage when it comes to deciding where you are going to do your higher studies and/or where you will subsequently do your job. This article will help all the 2022 exam candidates in getting the complete information of the GATE exam 2022.

By successfully entering into the merit list of the GATE exam, candidates allow themselves the privilege of choosing from two options: Major PSU’S (Public Service Undertakings) that take the GATE exam scores into account when employing new personnel into their company or admissions in Top IIT / IISc Colleges. So, a good GATE score means that you can easily get placements in any PSU company of your choosing or admissions in Top IIT / IISc Colleges. A lot of students have already started with GATE 2022 preparation.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has released the official GATE 2022 notification at (http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in). For the GATE 2022 Exam, IIT Kharagpur (Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur) will be the organizing institute and it has released detailed information brochure along with relaxed GATE eligibility, GATE 2022 exam dates, and the updated GATE 2022 Syllabus.

The GATE exam 2022 will be conducted on the following dates - Friday 5th, Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th February 2022. In these GATE 2022 exam dates, there are two sessions (forenoon and afternoon) each day to take the GATE 2022 examination. GATE 2022 registration will start from August 30, 2021.

This year, for the GATE exam 2022 exam, two new GATE 2022 papers Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture and Geomatics Engineering are added making the total GATE subject papers to be 29.

GATE aspirants can now write the GATE 2022 Exam for 29 Exam Papers, and the students can select a maximum of 2 GATE papers to attempt. A GATE aspirant might appear either in ONE or TWO subject papers. For the students who select the TWO GATE papers, the subject combination must be from the approved list of combinations from IIT Kharagpur and subject to the availability of infrastructure and GATE exam 2022 date. IIT Kharagpur has also reduced the number of exam centres in various zones for the GATE 2022 examination.

Direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central government, i.e., Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, will be now carried out using GATE score.

GATE 2022 Exam Pattern

The GATE exam 2022 will be a fully computer-based exam of 3 hours duration and will consist of 65 questions totalling up to 100 marks.

IIT Kharagpur has made several changes in the GATE Exam 2022 pattern of questions. All the test papers of GATE exam 2022 will be completely objective. The new GATE exam pattern of questions will include a new category of questions Multiple Choice Questions (MSQ), while the remaining questions might include Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and/or Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT).

For all the incorrect answers to a 1 mark MCQ section, there is a deduction of 1/3 marks and for 2 marks MCQ section, there is a 2/3 mark deduction. This does not include numerical answer type questions. 

Note: IIT Kharagpur last conducted the GATE exam in 2014 and will be the organising institute again this year. So, it’s very important for all the GATE 2022 students to check the GATE previous year papers conducted by IIT Kharagpur and know the difficulty level of GATE Questions.

GATE Application Form 2022

IIT Kharagpur will release GATE application form 2022 on August 30. Before starting the GATE 2022 form filling process, the GATE aspirant must ensure that he/she meets the eligibility criteria of the GATE 2022 Exam.

GATE 2022 exam applications will be accepted ONLINE only through the GATE Online Application System (GOAPS). Only those engineering students who have registered for the GATE 2022 exam will be eligible to write GATE examination. GATE 2022 application form will be made available for all GATE Aspirants on the official website of IIT Kharagpur from the mid of September 2021.

Candidates will have to provide their personal, academic and other details while filling up the GATE 2022 application form. They will also have to upload their signature, photograph, and the category certificate (for reserved categories). And, if there are any necessary corrections to be made, an option for that is also made available for the students. 

Candidates appearing for more than one paper will have to pay the GATE 2022 application fee separately for both the papers but fill only one application form. In case of multiple applications, only one form will be accepted and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.

On successful completion of the registration process, the candidate can then download their admit cards tentatively in January 2022.

GATE 2022 Eligibility Criteria

IIT Kharagpur has announced the eligibility criteria applicable for the candidates appearing for GATE 2022 exam.

There is NO age limit to appear for the GATE 2022 exam.

GATE 2022 Eligibility criteria is relaxed from the minimum of 10+2+4 (ongoing) to a minimum of 10+2+3 (ongoing) i.e. as per this new GATE 2022 eligibility criteria, an engineering student who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is now eligible to appear for the GATE 2022 exam.

It is also to be noted that foreign students from UAE, Ethiopia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal can now attempt the exam. The only difference is that these candidates will be paying their exam fees in US Dollars. There is currently no age limit for those who are looking forward to writing the exam.

GATE 2022 Mock Test

IIT Kharagpur shall release the mock test of GATE exam 2022 on their official website. Candidates can practice the GATE 2022 Mock Test paper and get familiar with the GATE exam pattern 2022. It is a simulation of the actual exam and will help the candidates in preparing for the upcoming examination. Authorities release separate mock tests for all the GATE papers conducted by them. GATE 2022 mock test will be 3 hours long and will consist of objective type questions.

After submission of GATE application form and the payment of fee, the candidates will also be able to check the status of their application. They will have to login at the COAP portal and the following GATE application status might show up:

  • Status after Rectification
  • Rejected with Valid Reason
